Sobre o original:
The four-masted bark Pamir was built in 1905 for the F. Laeisz Hamburg shipyard and was one of the Flying P liners famed for their speed and reliability. According to tradition, she had a name beginning with ?!?P?!?. The Pamir won the Grain Race of 1932 and in 1949 rounded Cape Horn as the last great cargo-carrying sailing ship without engines. In 1950s the Pamir, like the Passat, was used as a cargo-carrying sail-training vessel for the German merchant navy. The Pamir sank in a hurricane on 21st September 1957 during her return voyage from Buenos Aires bound for Hamburg. 80 of the crew of 86 lost their lives. This shipwreck received a great deal of attention in the international media and brought to an end the life of cargo-carrying sail-training ships.
